about the trail
Lagoa do Peri is the largest freshwater lagoon on the Island of SC, being of vital importance in the supply of water on the Island. It is about 3 m above sea level. Its waters are used to supply some neighborhoods in Floripa. It has an area of about 5.2 km² and a maximum depth of 11 m, being very shallow near the banks - ideal for a safe bath for children. It has several small white sand beaches and lawns, which are very popular especially in summer. It has been considered a Natural Heritage since 1976, and the Lagoa do Peri Municipal Park was created and regulated, with about 23 km², in 1982.
We usually start our walk in Armação to get to know a little bit of this amazing place - a 30-minute trail to the lagoon. On the south bank of the lake we have the Caminho da Gurita - 3 km and approximately 1 hour and a half - which goes to the main source of the lake, a small river, with small waterfalls and wells. Ruins of an old sawmill. On the north side we have the Caminho do Saquinho with 2.2 km crossing archaeological sites of ancient flour mills. A beautiful trail always bordering the lagoon and with beautiful views. Approximate time of 50 minutes. Another option - lighter and with easier terrain - is the Caminho da Restinga, a 1.4 km trail through a forest, a sandbank and the riparian forest of the lagoon. This last trail is ideal for children and people looking for easier trails, but still very beautiful and excellent for swimming. These trails are called "paths" because they were used in the past as true paths by the local population - for people, animals, carts, etc.
